West Liberty-Salem wins second straight OHC title

WEST LIBERTY —

West Liberty-Salem quarterback Riley Simms and running back Taylor Cordell helped lead the host Tigers to their 24th straight Ohio Heritage Conference win and their second straight conference with a 34-7 win over Triad on Friday night.

Simms rushed for 179 yards on 25 carries and threw a 10-yard touchdown pass to Landon Hormann in the second quarter as West Liberty led 14-7 at halftime.

Cordell rushed for 105 yards and scored two touchdowns in the third quarter as the Tigers had a 27-7 lead heading into the fourth quarter.

Trevor Anderson started the scoring for West Liberty with a fumble recovery in the Cardinals end zone.

Trey McIntyre, who rushed for 92 yards on nine carries, broke off a 69-yard scoring run to tie the game at the end of the first quarter for Triad (9-1, 6-1 OHC).

Anderson finished the scoring with a 5-yard scoring run in the fourth quarter as the Tigers (10-0, 7-0 OHC) finished their second straight undefeated season.

West Liberty, who was ranked fifth in Division V, Region 20 in the latest computer ratings, may have clinched a shot to host a first-round home playoff game. Triad, who was ranked seventh in Region 20, will have to wait on a possible playoff shot.

Centerville 41, Springfield 6: Tim Ropp rushed for 101 yards and two touchdowns and Kyle Wenning added two TD runs for the Elks (6-4, 3-2 Greater Western Ohio Conference Central Division). Chris Wallace threw his eight touchdown of the season, 40 yards to Eric McCree, for the host Wildcats (1-9, 0-5 GWC Central).

Catholic Central 7, Cedarville 3: Ryan Fain’s 31-yard touchdown pass to Ryan Weeks in the second quarter was all the offense as the host Irish (2-8, 2-6 OHC) finished the season with two wins in the last three games. Jaden Smith hit a 25-yard field goal in the third quarter for the Indians (1-8-1, 0-7 OHC).

Mechanicsburg 33, Northeastern 22: Aeryton Erwin rushed for 164 yards and three touchdowns as the host Indians held off the Jets. Colin Vernon threw for 209 yards and hit Brandon Purk with two scoring strikes for Mechanicsburg 4-6, 3-4).

Sean Payton ran two kickoffs back 80 yards for scores for Northeastern (4-6, 4-3 OHC).

Urbana 28, Graham 14: The host Hillclimbers (9-1, 5-0 CBC) clinched their second straight CBC Mad River title and a possible Division III, Region 10 home playoff game with the victory.

Northwestern 28, Greenon 6: Hunter Houseman rushed for 150 yards in the first half including four touchdowns in the second quarter for the host Warriors. Jeff Bost rushed for 100 yards including a 78-yard run that set up Houseman’s first TD for Northwestern (5-5, 2-3 CBC). Anthony Colletti had a 35-yard TD run for the Knights (1-9, 0-5 CBC).
