Prep spotlight: Jenna Robertson, Greenon

By Jeff Gilbert

Jenna Robertson is Greenon’s leading scorer as a senior and has led the Knights into first place in the Central Buckeye Conference Mad River Division girls basketball standings. She says she also works hard to make good grades and likes being on student council. Robertson recently sat down with the News-Sun.

Question: Why is basketball your favorite sport?

Answer: It’s a sport I’ve always been really passionate about. I’ve played other sports, but basketball has always been the most fun. I like the pace of the game.

Q: What’s special about playing for Greenon?

A: It’s a great program because our team is like a family. We don’t just go to practice – we do extra stuff like team meals and team bonding. All the girls on the team – freshman, JV, varsity – we’re all together all the time, so we get along really well. It’s almost like a second family to me. Our coaches are really into team bonding. They’re really close to us, and we feel like we can go to them with any problems that we have whether it’s about basketball or it’s about our lives. It’s a really close atmosphere.

Q: What are your college plans?

A: Ohio State University is mainly my plan. I’ve had some D-III schools look at me for basketball, but I haven’t decided yet if I’m going to play or not because I want to go pre-med. I don’t know if I can handle basketball and going pre-med. I want to be a general practitioner or a pediatrician. I want a really good job, and I’ve always found science interesting. I don’t really like the math part of science like physics and calculus, but I think it would be really interesting to figure out what’s wrong with people and help them get better.

Q: Who is your role model?

A: My dad (Garland Robertson). He played sports in high school (at Greenon), and he was really good at all the sports he did like football and basketball and track. He’s always been there for me through my whole entire basketball career helping me get better and putting in extra time with me and working with me on whatever I want.
