CINCINNATI —
With four sacks against Baltimore, the Cincinnati Bengals set the single-season franchise record with 51 but finished one behind Denver for the NFL lead.
“It’s great,” said Carlos Dunlap, who had one sack Sunday to bring his season total to six and also had his first career interception, which he returned 14 yards for a touchdown.
“I was fortunate enough to get the rookie record (9.5 in 2010), and now I’m a part of the team sack record,” Dunlap added. “It’s great to be a part of that. It just shows the ability we have on this team. We’ve got two guys over 10 sacks, and our backups are at (six). It’s a pretty good year for us.”
Michael Johnson had two sacks against the Ravens to give him 11.5 this year. He joins Geno Atkins (12.5) as the first Bengals duo to record double-digit sacks in the same season since Reggie Williams (11) and Eddie Edwards (10) in 1981.
Wallace Gilberry had the other sack Sunday, his sixth of the season.
Marvin’s milestone
Rookie wide receiver Marvin Jones scored his first NFL touchdown Sunday on an 11-yard pass from Andy Dalton that tied the score at 7-7 with 39 seconds left before halftime.
“It’s a great feeling,” said Jones, who also tied his career high with five catches and finished with 45 yards.
Jones caught the pass over the middle at the 6-yard line and spun away from two defenders to race into the end zone.
“From my peripheral vision and the play design, I knew they were there,” Jones said “I was able to use that and turn right away from them.”
Jones, who has started the last five games after fellow rookie Mohamed Sanu suffered a season-ending stress fracture, has a combined 10 catches for 110 yards the last two weeks.
Green-Ellis scratched
Bengals running back BenJarvus Green-Ellis was a late scratch after suffering a hamstring injury during pregame warm-ups.
“I don’t know how severe it is,” Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis said. “He just didn’t feel right in warm-ups today, so we held him out. He was a little tight.”
Green-Ellis finished the regular season with 278 rushes for a career-high 1,094 yards and six touchdowns.
Foot feat
Punter Kevin Huber set the Bengals’ single-season records for gross and net average with Sunday’s performance.
Huber punted seven times for a 47.1 average, raising his season total to 46.6 and breaking the previous mark of 46.2 set by Dave Lewis in 1970. His net average against the Ravens was 43.4, upping his season total to 42.0, breaking the record of 39.3 set by Dale Livingston in the inaugural Bengals season of 1968.
Huber also had four punts downed inside the 20 Sunday, giving him 33 for the season. Two of his kicks against the Ravens were downed inside the 5, giving him 12 this season.
Quick hitters
Chris Crocker left the game with a quad injury but said “no worries at all” when asked about playing next week in the Wild Card game. … Nate Clements started for the injured Terence Newman (groin) at cornerback, his first start since Nov. 18 at Kansas City. Clements had played just 17 defensive snaps in the past five games. … Marvin Lewis became the first Bengals coach in history to have three 10-win seasons (11-5 in 2005, 10-6 in 2009, 10-6 this year). … The Bengals won seven of their final eight games for the third time in franchise history (1970 and 1981 are the others).
