About the Raiders

One of the biggest questions about Wright State is which players will be available. Freshman guard Matt Vest, fourth on the team at 25.7 minutes per game, left WSU’s victory against Central MIchigan on Tuesday with a contusion to the area of two bones on the right side of his back after suffering a hard foul on a drive to the basket with less than 2 minutes left. WSU coach Billy Donlon called Vest “probable” for the game. Sophomore Armond Battle hasn’t played in two games because of a groin pull, and Donlon said he’s available. Freshmen guards Vance Hall and Kegan Clark didn’t make the trip to Mount Pleasant, Mich., because of a “coach’s decision,” and Donlon said he hasn’t decided if they will play today. ... WSU is above .500 for the first time since 3-2 after three straight wins against Air Force, Tusculum College and CMU. ... The Raiders remain strong in free-throw shooting (73.1 percent) and forcing turnovers (16.3 per game), but opponents continue to shoot well against them (48.2 percent).

About the RedHawks

Miami has won two straight after its usually difficult start to the season, with games against Duke, San Diego State, Ohio State, Xavier and Dayton (only Xavier was a victory). ... The RedHawks haven’t played in a week since beating Troy last Saturday. ... Mavunga, who was a high school teammate of former Butler star Gordon Hayward at Brownsburg High School in Indiana, has scored in double figures in five straight games. ... Ballard has 49 career starts, the most on the team, and Winbuch has played in a team-high 97 career games. ... Miami also is strong at the free-throw line (72.5 percent)

FYI

Chris Moore, a Wright State assistant coach, spent one season as an assistant at Jeffersonville High School in Indiana in 2005-06. During that season, he coached Ballard. It’s also the same high school that produced Clark, the WSU freshman.

Quote

“Their three older players, Ballard, Winbush and Mavunga, are just scary. They can beat you up physically, and with that skill level they can do so many different things.” — WSU coach Billy Donlon
