OSU’s Miller named Maxwell semifinalist

Ohio State quarterback Braxton Miller is one of 16 semifinalist for the Maxwell Award, which honors the college football player of the year.

Miller, a sophomore, has led the Buckeyes to a 9-0 record and a No. 6 national ranking. He is averaging 291.1 yards of offense per game. Miller leads the Big Ten in rushing (121.4 yards per game) and ranks 11th nationally. He has passed for 1,527 yards and 12 touchdowns and has thrown six interceptions.

Ohio State has had four previous Maxwell Award winners: Howard Cassady (1955), Bob Ferguson (1961), Archie Griffin (1975) and Eddie George (1995).

Three finalists will be announced Nov. 19. The Maxwell Award winners will be announced Dec. 6 as part of a college football awards show on ESPN.
