A-10 agrees to contract with ESPN, other networks

By Doug Harris

Staff Writer

The A-10 has agreed to an eight-year contract with ESPN, CBS Sports Network and NBC Sports Network that will double the exposure of men’s and women’s basketball games beginning in 2013-14. A total of 192 games, 146 of them in men’s hoops, will be aired nationally that season.

Two UD games, previously listed as A-10 TV broadcasts, will appear on NBC Sports Network this season: Jan. 12 at home against Butler and Feb. 2 at Saint Louis. The Flyers will have at least seven nationally televised games this season.

UD has traditionally had about 90 percent of its games televised overall. The new agreement means the program will increase its reach with more national broadcasts. The conference is attractive to the networks not only with its performance on the court, but also because of the A-10’s footprint. All 14 league schools in 2013-14 are located in the top 65 media markets.

UD also announced that fewer than 200 tickets are left for the Butler game and 500 for Xavier’s visit to UD Arena. Upper-level season tickets are still being sold at $114 for the middle sections and $75 in the corners.
