Springfield police unsure why woman killed on U.S. 40 was in roadway

2 rollover crashes block German Twp. roads


Fire and rescue crews responded this afternoon to two rollover crashes within a half mile of each other.

The first occurred shortly before 4 p.m. on County Line Road. A sport utility vehicle rolled and left the driver was taken to Springfield Regional Medical Center with minor injuries.

The SUV crashed into a utility pole and knocked power lines down. The road is closed until repairs are done there, according to the News Center 7 crew on scene.

German Twp. crews left that scene to respond to the second rollover on River Road, leaving the driver trapped in an SUV. Witnesses reported seeing the vehicle roll two times before stopping.

At 4:15 p.m., River Road was completely blocked as crews worked to free the female driver from the wreckage. She was alert and talking to the crew, according to the News Center 7 crew on scene.
