Man who shot Ohio judge is father of Steubenville HS player convicted of rape

Today’s Moderator: Dodging texting drivers

Here’s some of the mail that came in about Ohio lawmakers considering raising the fines for texting and driving.

Tony Chamberlain asked: What about “police officers who are looking at their laptops while driving? I have observed this often. I always try to make eye contact with local law officials, and they are looking over at their laptops instead of looking up and observing their surroundings. To my knowledge there is no special training involved to be able to drive and look at any electronic device while driving.”

OPINION: The recipe for small-town economic turnarounds.

Doug Borgert writes: “Too many people are being killed and injured due to texting while driving. My wife was rear-ended twice while sitting at a traffic light by teenagers who were texting. I hope someday there will be a state and federal law making texting while driving a criminal act. There should be a federal law requiring cars sold in the United States to carry a jamming device that would disable all cell phones while the car is in the “Drive” mode. As an electrical engineer, I am fairly confident this would only add an additional $10 to the cost of the vehicle, if mass-produced.”
