Just another vicious cycle?

Everyone’s favorite topic, red-light cameras, have been been in the news recently, as the Ohio Supreme Court heard arguments about the state ban on them.

Here’s what reader Robert L. Lindsey had to say: “Camera’s installed; city gets some money; company gets money for installing them; accident rate goes down (drops 30 to 60 percent); lives saved and injuries prevented; drivers get mad because they broke the law and got caught. Owners had to pay fines.

“Lawmaker gets caught breaking the law with a very poor excuse for doing so. Fellow lawmakers say this law is a bad thing; people should not have to follow the rules. Put all kinds of restrictions on when/how law can be enforced.

“Camera’s turned off because it is almost impossible for the police to follow the restrictions.

“Accidents climb sharply; more people hurt and killed; city gets less money. Law breakers happy. Families grieve for their dead loved ones.”
