BRECKSVILLE, Ohio — The Cuyahoga Valley National Park in northeast Ohio says signs of a bald eagle nest have led to certain restrictions on hiking and water activities.

The park says nesting signs were seen Monday in an area called the Pinery Narrows. The surrounding area is off limits, a portion of the Cuyahoga River is closed to water activities and certain pedestrian restrictions remain in place until July 31.

Park officials say the temperature sensitivity of eagle eggs means adults must remain on the nest constantly for an incubation period of about 35 days.

The bald eagle was recently removed from the endangered species list but remains protected by laws that prohibit harming them.

The birds had not been seen in the area for 70 years when they returned in 2006.
