WELLINGTON, Ohio — A fire chief says most of the gasoline-soaked soil has been removed from a pipeline leak last month that displaced dozens of residents in a northern Ohio mobile home park.
The Chronicle-Telegram of Elyria reports (http://bit.ly/yowJzx) that Wellington Fire Chief Mike Wetherbee says Sunoco Logistics is working to remove the rest of the contaminated soil. He says the company has put in new pipe as part of the cleanup and repair.
The pipeline will be tested before gasoline starts flowing again.
Park residents were evacuated as officials shut down the 8-inch pipeline that leaked late Jan. 12 in Wellington, about 35 miles southwest of Cleveland. Authorities estimated more than 115,000 gallons of gas spilled.
Sunoco Logistics has opened a new base of operations in the village for the cleanup.
