WHITEHOUSE, Ohio — Organizers of an Ohio village's annual winter celebration say the recent warmer weather and a lack of snow has forced them to come up with less wintry activities for this year's event.

The Winterfest is scheduled this weekend in Whitehouse, about 15 miles southwest of Toledo.

Community development coordinator Barbara Knisely tells WTOL-TV (http://bit.ly/A4Kf6D ) that the throwing contest will use softballs instead of snowballs, and children will get a chance to decorate their parents instead of snowmen. She says organizers will replace a snow angel contest with sidewalk chalking, and they're trying to find a way to make the sled races work.

Whitehouse resident Karen Jennings says the lack of snow is an unexpected twist after last year, when the village had 18 inches of snow for the event.
