DAYTON, Ohio — An Ohio prosecutor says a former probation officer has pleaded guilty to theft in office and tampering with evidence.

The Montgomery County prosecutor says 38-year-old Douglas Lowe pleaded guilty Monday to single counts of theft in office of over $5,000 and tampering with evidence and to five counts of tampering with government records.

Lowe administered Dayton Municipal Court's electronic home detention program from 2006 until 2009. The prosecutor says an investigation showed he kept supervision fee payments instead of turning them over to the probation department and manipulated the books to cover the thefts.

A prosecutor's spokesman says Lowe was accused of taking tens of thousands of dollars but the amount sought in restitution is still to be determined.

His attorney declined to comment pending the March 12 sentencing.
