INDIANAPOLIS — David Lang nailed a 27-yard field goal with one second left Saturday to hoist Butler to a 20-17 victory over Drake and send the team to the Gridiron Classic.
The win also meant Butler (10-1, 7-1 Pioneer League) will share the conference title with Dayton, which also finished the season Saturday with a 7-1 record.
Drake (8-3, 6-2) tied things at 17 with about 10 minutes left when Mike Piatkowski threw a 53-yard pass to Joey Orlando.
That followed a touchdown toss by Butler quarterback Andrew Huck to Zach Watkins.
Jordan Koopman helped Butler with an 18-yard touchdown run in the third. Lang hit his first field goal in the first half.
Pat Cashmore had a 7-yard scoring run for Drake, and Brandon Wubs kicked a 23-yard field goal.
Butler earned the chance to represent the Pioneer League in the Gridiron game by beating Dayton earlier in the season.
