Police: Man crashed stolen SUV, attempted to run

SPRINGFIELD —

A man suspected of leading a police chase that ended in a crash pleaded not guilty in court today.

Timothy Lee Everhart, 30, was arrested for crashing the Sport Utility Vehicle he was driving into another vehicle at the interesection of South Kensington Place and Ohio 72.

Prior to the crash, a police sergeant spotted Everhart driving with no headlights on, and police pursued him. They said the SUV was stolen from a Shell gas station on South Limestone Street in Springfield.

The sergeant said after the crash, Everhart fled from the vehicle. He pursued Everhart on foot and caught him behind 238 S. Kensington Place.

Everhart was arrested and taken to Springfield Regional Medical Center for evaluation of reported leg pain. He was charged with failure to comply with order or Signal of Police Officer, Receiving Stolen Property, Red Light Violation, Headlights Required, No Driver’s License and four counts of Driving Under Suspension.

Additional charges are pending and the investigation is ongoing.
