Trailers destroyed by mulch fire

Staff Report

CLARK COUNTY —

Two semi trailers were destroyed by fire Sunday afternoon at Buckeye Diamond Logistics, 15 Sprague Road.

Madison Township Fire Chief Christopher Clark said firefighters were called to the plant around 2 p.m. They found a 53-foot trailer of compressed mulch on fire.

They said the fire quickly spread to a second trailer full of mulch.

Clark said the trailers were between 100 and 125 feet from the main building, which was not damaged.

The fire also damaged some mulch transport equipment.

Clark said the fire may have started from spontaneous combustion. He said the decomposition process can produce heat, which can cause ignition.

No one was hurt.
