Tattoo, security footage help in bank robbery arrest

By Jessica Heffner

MEDWAY —

Security footage and a distinctive tattoo may have helped authorities find two people accused in a Medway bank robbery at a motel room in Troy.

Sean D. Neikirk, 30, and Heather D. Fent, 30, were arrested at the Royal Inn on Brukner Drive in Troy late Monday night, according to the Clark County Sheriff’s Office. Both are accused in the Monday morning robbery of Security National Bank, 130 W. Main St. in Medway.

Deputies said Neikirk came into the bank and passed the teller a note that demanded money. They said the teller complied, and the suspect left the bank, fleeing in a white pickup truck driven by Fent.

When Neikirk was found in the hotel room, he allegedly tried to barricade himself in the bathroom to inject himself with heroin, said Sheriff Gene Kelly. Officers had to deploy a Taser to subdue him. Fent was arrested without incident, Kelly said.

Some of the money from Security National Bank was recovered from the room, along with two knives, a packet of a vegetable-type matter authorities are still trying to identify, several syringes with what’s believed to be heroin and three cell phones, Kelly said. While Neikirk did not display a weapon, it’s possible he was armed at the time of the robbery. The clothes he was wearing were also recovered, Kelly said.

Kelly credited police from Troy and Riverside, along with the FBI, in helping locate the suspects. Surveillance footage from a Dayton scrap yard placed Neikirk with the truck, which was reported stolen from Dayton Saturday. He was also wearing the same clothes as seen in surveillance footage at the bank during the robbery.

He has a heart-shaped tattoo on the left side of his neck, which helped authorities narrow down suspects since Neikirk has a criminal history of burglary and theft, said Lt. Chris Clark.

Surveillance footage from a nearby gas station showed the vehicle fleeing west. The truck was located on Valley Street in Riverside Monday night. From there, authorities tracked the couple to Troy where they were arrested, Kelly said.

Neikirk pleaded not guilty to charges of robbery and theft. His bond was set at $30,000, and he asked the court for a public defender. Fent pleaded not guilty to a charge of complicity to robbery. Her bond was set at $25,000, and she also asked for a public defender.

It’s possible the pair could face additional charges if the items recovered from the motel room test positive as narcotics and for the stolen truck. They remain in the Clark County Jail.
