Staff Report

Despite only a couple of inches of snow accumulation spanning the last 36 hours, blustery winds and cold temperatures are becoming problematic for commuters and emergency personnel alike.

Strong winds are reportedly creating tough driving conditions on Interstate 70 between Dayton and Columbus, particularly for semi tractor trailer drivers who are hauling light loads, according to one driver. At 8:50 a.m., a semi tractor trailer went off the road on I-70 eastbound and was reportedly leaking fuel, according to dispatchers. A witness at the scene said he saw the semi lose control and begin to fishtail while on the Ohio 40 overpass. He thought it was going to go off the bridge but a steep embankment stopped the truck.

At 8:40 a.m. part of Ohio 127 (14000 block) was shut down because of downed power lines and fire crews are responding, according to Darke County dispatchers.

A crash was reported near Casstown in Miami County around 8:30 a.m. in which a vehicle rolled onto its top, according to scanner traffic.

At 7:23 a.m., the Auglaize County Sheriff’s Office sent a notification stating that visibility was “minimal” on roads running north and south because of blowing snow.
