Police ID teen struck, killed by train

The Clark County Sheriff’s Office has identified the 17-year-old boy who was struck and killed by a train on Friday.

The train struck Austin Gilbert of Springfield near the 2000 block of Enon Road.

The engineer and the conductor told deputies the teen was walking westbound in the middle of the tracks with his back to them when he was struck.

Clark County deputies were dispatched to Enon Road around 4:13 p.m. after receiving a phone call from the railroad, according to police.

When deputies arrived, the 56-car train was stopped and Gilbert was lying about 200 yards east of the roadway crossing, according police.

Gilbert was pronounced dead at the scene.

The rail system and roadway were reopened around 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
