New Urbana restaurant focuses on wing, pizza, beer photo

An Urbana bar and restaurant that’s been closed for more than a year is getting a second life with a new name and menu.

The Wing Bar, 1549 S. U.S. 68, will serve pizzas, fresh wings, salads and a rotating list of craft beers, new owner Amber Fraley-Weaver said.

The restaurant was known for about a decade as the Vintage Roadside Cafe, when her father Mike Fraley owned the business. That restaurant focused on hamburgers and other sandwiches but closed more than a year ago.

Mike Fraley still owns the building, but convinced Amber to reopen the restaurant. However, she said would only do so if she was able to make it her own. She renamed it the Wing Bar, renovated the restaurant’s interior and came up with a new menu, among other changes.

“I didn’t want anybody to compare it to the previous place,” Fraley-Weaver said. “I wanted it to be something totally different.”

The restaurant and an attached drive-through has about 14 employees. Fraley-Weaver joked she watched reality television show “Bar Rescue” religiously while the renovations were taking place.

She also wanted to keep the new name simple.

“Anybody driving by on 68 knows I have wings and a bar so there’s no confusion,” she said.

While the Vintage Cafe was known for its burgers, she said the Wing Bar will focus on pizzas and fresh, hand-breaded chicken wings. It will also offer salads with organic lettuce and a rotating craft beer list. Customers can also try a flight of beers.

Fraley-Weaver is also planning to deliver pizza to area businesses and residents who live in the immediate area around the restaurant. While it’s a a new business, she said she’s hoping old customers will give the restaurant a second chance as well.

“A lot of the old regulars are regulars again,” she said.
