MIAMI VALLEY —
Cold Weather Safety: With the impending cold weather and dangerous wind chills, here are few important reminders for staying safe. Wear multiple layers of loose-fitting, lightweight and warm clothing. Be sure to wear a hat, gloves and scarf to protect exposed skin from frostbite. Avoid wide-open spaces and stay indoors when possible
Increasing clouds through Sunday night, less breezy and cold. Lows in the mid to upper teens. Can’t rule out a stray flurry.
Temperatures struggle to rise on Monday as a blustery northwesterly wind continues to filter much colder air into the region. Afternoon highs expected near 20 degrees, with winds increasing through the day to speeds between 15-20mph, wind chills will be in the single digits. Mostly cloudy skies to start Monday clear through the evening opening the door for a drop in temperatures overnight. The lowest expected wind chill values will be recorded Monday night and Tuesday morning roughly 10-15 degrees below zero.
Mostly sunny skies on Tuesday, highs will reach only into the lower teens with wind chills below zero. Winds will subside Tuesday night and shift to a more southerly flow allowing temperatures to be better on Wednesday, but still below average in the lower 20s.
Could see a few flurries on Wednesday under partly cloudy skies. More clouds on Thursday with highs approaching 30 degrees.
The next chance for significant precipitation arrives late Thursday. This is still a few days away, but as of now it appears the precipitation will start as light snow changing to freezing rain with rain then overnight and ending as light snow early Friday. Approximately a half inch of rain is possible, and any snow that falls will likely not accumulate.
You could see some slippery or icy roadways to start Friday. Mostly cloudy and cold on Friday in the lower to mid-20s.
A weather note: Usually highs reach in the mid-30s, so temperatures will be below average for the next five days, and through next weekend.
