From rides that drop you from hundreds of feet in the air to ghouls, goblins and freaks, Kings Island is looking to corner the market on Halloween thrills, chills and fun this fall.

“When you look at Halloween, between horror and fun, nobody in the area does Halloween better than we do,” said Kings Island spokesman Don Helbig. “No matter what your taste in Halloween runs, there’s something here for that.”

Halloween has three components at Kings Island. For mature audiences, the park offers the sixth annual Halloween Haunt.

“Halloween Haunt is a veritable playground of terror,” Helbig said.

The event, which runs starting September 21 and every Friday and Saturday through October has 12 terrifying mazes, more than 500 creatures of the night and four fear zones — outdoor areas where creatures roam free and terrorize passer-byes.

“The fear zones really enhance the experience for everyone,”Helbig said. “Even if you don’t want to go through mazes you still have to take part. Once you’re in the gates, you’re in here for good.”

More than 20 rides will also be open during Halloween Haunt, including all the park’s signature coasters like the Beast, Diamondback and Vortex.

Madame Fatal’s Cavern of Terror, a new wax museum-themed horror maze is one of the largest in the park’s history and one Helbig promises guests will talking about for a long time. The maze also has a unique buffet dining experience for an addition $45.99. Tickets for the buffet can only be purchased on-line.

The Hot Blooded Show, a live mash-up of vampire lore and hard rockin’ tunes returns for an unprecedented fourth year. Helbig called it Kings Island’s version of the “Rocky Horror Picture Show” and noted it has gained a strong cult following. .

For kids, the park offers Soak’s City’s Howl-O-Palooza on Saturdays and Sundays from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Set in the Kings Island’s waterpark, the event offers family friendly activities, including a petting zoo, pony rides, hay bale mazes and visits from the Peanuts gang and other Halloween-themed costumed characters. All the Kings Island rides will be open and operating during Howl-O-Palooza.

Visitors can also Trick or Treat With the Dinosaurs for an additional $5. The exhibit features the park’s 60-plus animatronic dinosaurs — many of whom have been dressed up for the Halloween season.

“You’ve heard of herbivores and carnivores,” Helbig said. “Well at Kings Island, we have candy-vores.”

Trick or Treat with the Dinosaurs is open on Sept. 23, Sept. 29 and every Saturday and Sunday in October from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. On Sept. 23, all admission charges will be donated to A Kid Again, a charity that provides support and special outings for children with serious illnesses.

Helbig said the best price for admission tickets can be found online at www.visitkingsisland.com/haunt2012. On-line tickets are $25.99 for Fridays; $31.99 for Saturdays and Sundays. At the door tickets cost $38.99 for Fridays and $54.99 for Saturdays and Sundays. The park is closed Sept. 22 during the day but will open at 7 p.m. for Halloween Haunt.
