FAIRFIELD TWP. — The search for two peafowl last seen at the intersection of Hamilton-Mason Road and Bypass Ohio 4 will continue.
The pair that have been creating a traffic hazard since early April were not found by a township police officer and a city of Fairfield animal control officer searching Thursday, May 6.
Fairfield Twp. police Chief Richard St. John said with all the commotion, the peacocks may be hiding out until the attention dies down. Residents also have reported spotting peahens in the area.
St. John said an officer will periodically search the area.
The peacocks were first spotted the morning of April 5 crossing at Bypass Ohio 4 and Hamilton-Mason Road. During the next few weeks, about a dozen calls were made about the birds darting into traffic.
The chief said there have been two reports of possible dead peacocks on area roadways. One person reported what looked to be a dead peacock at 6 p.m. Wednesday on Ohio 129 around the 22-mile marker. The same day, another person reported seeing a dead bird on Tylersville Road off Ohio 747.
The chief said they could not locate any carcasses. However, St. John said a resident reported seeing a peacock in the area at about noon Thursday.
