CINCINNATI —
The Cincinnati Zoo welcomed a new giraffe to its animal family this morning.
Tessa, the mother, went into labor at around 6 a.m. and gave birth shortly after 8 a.m. Tessa is a five-year-old Maasai giraffe. The father is Kimba, another giraffe also living in the zoo’s Giraffe Ridge exhibit.
This is Tessa’s second calf. Her first, Zurri, was born in April 2011 but died at 7-weeks old after fracturing her leg and having to be euthanized.
