Distracted driver slams into utility pole

SPRINGFIELD —

A driver who told police her attention was focused on a holiday side dish lost control of her vehicle Thursday and hit a utility pole, breaking it in two, in the 2300 block of Lagonda Ave.

Nellie Phillips, 58, suffered a broken knee cap and wrist, but was alert when taken to Miami Valley Hospital by CareFlight, Springfield police said. The accident occurred at about noon.

The 1993 Honda Accord she was driving rolled and ended up on the driver’s side, police said.

There was no loss of service from the pole breaking in two, police said.

There was no word on whether Phillips would be cited.
