SPRINGFIELD —
A jury was seated Monday for a murder trial involving two brothers.
Anthony Hottenstein, 21, and Jordan Hottenstein, 20, both faced charges for the July 2011 shooting death of Jamez Hall. It took several hours to seat a jury for the brothers, who are being tried together. Jurors will view the murder scene and testimony will begin Tuesday.
Jordan Hottenstein was seriously injured in the gunfire that claimed Hall’s life. According to the Clark County Sheriff’s Office, the two allegedly lured Hall, 19, to the countryside July 23, 2011, on the pretext of a drug deal, but they intended to kill him.
Clark County Common Pleas Court documents indicate that Jordan Hottenstein received a text message from his bother to initiate the plan, and that Jordan was to electrically stun Hall to subdue him before he was killed. Authorities suspect Anthony Hottenstein pulled the trigger, killing Hall. It was unclear from reports filed in the case if he also shot his brother.
Hall’s body along with an injured Jordan were found inside a vehicle on the 2400 block on Old Mill Road in Mad River Twp. Anthony Hottenstein fled the scene and was found hiding in a barn on Crist Road after a five-hour manhunt.
Jordan Hottenstein faces two counts of murder and two counts of conspiracy to commit murder. Anthony Hottenstein faces two counts of murder with weapon specifications, two counts of improper handling of a firearm in a motor vehicle, felonious assault with a weapon specification and breaking and entering.
Jordan Hottenstein is out of jail, having posted his $75,000 bond, while Anthony Hottenstein is still being held in the Clark County Jail on $250,000 bond, according to court documents.
