CLARK COUNTY —

Ghosts and goblins will take over the streets of Clark County today for Beggars’ Night.

Trick-or-treat will be from 6-8 p.m. today countywide. Sheriff Gene Kelly, who sets the date and time, said many parents ask him to hold the event on the weekend so they don’t have to worry about taking off work in order to take their kids door-to-door.

“It goes until 8 p.m. and kids have to be in bed, so (now) they don’t have to worry about them going to bed late on a school night,” Kelly said.

Additional deputies will be stationed around the county for safety. Kelly advised children be supervised while trick-or-treating, and wear reflective clothing or take a flashlight. Parents should check all candy to make sure it hasn’t been tampered with or is expired. Any suspicious items should be reported to law enforcement, he said.

Those wanting to avoid the cold and potentially rainy conditions can enjoy Beggars’ Night indoors at the Upper Valley Mall. Trick-or-treating will also be held today from 6-8 p.m. at participating stores. Candy and other goodies will be handed out, said Carla Miller, director of marketing and business development for Upper Valley Mall.

Masks can only be worn by children 12 and under. No toy weapons will be permitted with costumes, mall officials said.
