Area superintendent to retire

By Matt Sanctis

Staff Writer

Craig Meredith, superintendent of Triad Local Schools, said he will retire next June to pursue other interests after serving in education for 30 years.

While he had initially planned to serve longer, Meredith said it made more sense to retire early and pursue other professional interests due to changes in the state’s retirement system. He planned to submit his resignation to the district’s board of education during a meeting Thursday.

“If I’m going to retire, this is as good a time as any,” Meredith said.

Chris Millice, president of the district’s board of education, declined further comment until the retirement becomes official at Thursday’s meeting, scheduled for 7 p.m. in the district’s high school library. The position is posted on the district’s web site.

It made more sense to retire now, Meredith, said, because he wants to pursue other interests in education. Among his options, he said he has considered teaching at the college level and managing a consulting business focused on leadership development. His final day with the district will be June 30 next year.

He has served in the district for several years and said he is is thankful for the time he was able to serve as superintendent.

“It’s been my home.” Meredith said. “My kids both graduated from Triad High School.”

Meredith’s teaching career began in the Fairborn City School District, and he later moved on to serve in the Morgan Local School District in Morgan County before taking a job at Triad. After serving about a dozen years as a teacher, the rest of Meredith’s career has been in administration, where he has served as a principal, treasurer and superintendent.
