CTC restructures administration

The Springfield-Clark Career Technology Center has restructured its administration to be more efficient and better serve students.

The school is operating with three directors, each overseeing distinct areas of operation: career technology programs, academic and students services, and attendance and discipline, Superintendent Rick Smith said.

“It used to be that the administrative team shared a lot of those duties but we’re becoming more focused on our own areas so we can become more specialized,” he said.

Smith, who became superintendent last spring, previously served as the school’s executive director with two assistant directors working with him. Each administrator handled one-third of the career tech programs offered at the school, as well as discipline and other student issues.

Now, Josh Jennings is the director of carer tech programs and Amy Schakat is the director of academic, student and special education services. Nathan Lasso oversees discipline and attendance.

“It helps for the community too, including our home schools,” Smith said. “They know, just like the students are learning, if it’s a certain issue, they go to a certain person.”

The executive director position was eliminated for the 2012-13 school year and replaced with the third director position. The title change did not include any pay increases so there is no increase in costs, said Smith.
