SOUTHWEST OHIO —
A new record high temperature was set today - breaking the old record by 1 degree.
The temperature at the Dayton International Airport today is 59 degrees, breaking the old record of 58 degrees set in 1911, said Storm Center 7 Chief Meteorologist Jamie Simpson.
The high on Saturday is expected to be about 63 degrees and is not likely to break the currect high temperature of 67, Simson said.
Heavy rains hit the Southwest Ohio region this morning, and warmer temperatures have arrived.
The water that fell today created hazardous driving conditions because “the ground is still frozen a few inches down, so this water has nowhere to go. This will increase ponding on the roads,” said Storm Center 7 Meteorologist Rich Wirdzek.
Some area creeks are experiencing rising water levels. Wirdzek said a combination of heavy rainfall and melting snow has led to higher than normal water levels.
There were power outages reported across the Miami Valley. Most were restored around 10:30 a.m.
Dry weather will continue into Saturday morning with lows around 50. More rain will arrive late Saturday afternoon with highs reaching the low-60s, he said.
“Tomorrow’s record is 67 set in 1916 … but we probably won’t hit that,” Wirdzek said.
Sunday will also see rain as the temperature falls to the 40s. Some wet snow is possible Monday morning. Highs will be in the mid-30s, which is normal for this time of the year, he said.
