SOUTHWEST OHIO —
High winds may be to blame after bricks collapsed off a Sugarcreek Twp. apartment complex late Monday night.
Sugarcreek Twp. fire crews responded to the apartment complex located in the 4500 block of Bayberry Cove just after 11 p.m. Monday. Officials said bricks on the entire north side of the building collapsed, and some structural damage to the unit was reported.
The adult male and female tenants living in the unit at the end of the complex are displaced due to structural damage, according to reports.
Residents said they first thought a car had crashed into their apartment when the bricks fell.
The wind advisory was in effect until 2 a.m. as gusts approached 60 mph in parts of the region. At 11:10 p.m., gusts of 54 mph at Wright Patterson Air Force Base and 59 mph in Wilmington were recorded.
A large tree in the 100 block of Ringgold Street in Dayton also succumbed to high winds.
Meteorologist Jamie Simpson said the strongest gusts of the storm were on the leading edge of heavier rain.
Windy conditions are expected to continue into Wednesday as temperatures drop through the week, he said.
