Two National Trail Parks and Recreation District facilities — Veterans Park and Carleton Davidson Stadium — were both spray-painted Sunday night.

According to a police report, two male suspects spray-painted the words “suicide” and “heff of heft” at several locations around 6:30 p.m.

A National Trail employee saw the suspects spray-painting, but they left by the time police arrived, district CEO Leann Castillo said.

“And the Wittenberg coach was at the stadium Sunday evening and when he left nothing was wrong yet,” she added.

Wittenberg University also uses the stadium.

The perpetrators spray painted the back half of the stadium and also graffitied several statues and the outdoor theater in Veterans Park.

National Trail cleaned up the park, but because of rain, it likley won’t be able to clean the stadium until this afternoon or Thursday morning.

“First of all, it doesn’t look good but, second, it takes staff time to paint this and there’s the paint we buy to cover it up,” Castillo said. “It is a waste of tax dollars because of the time and supplies.”

Springfield Police Division officers couldn’t be reached for comment Tuesday afternoon.

In May, vandals spray painted five buildings along Home Road, including China Palace, Springfield High School and the Clark County Combined Health District.
