Man arrested on child porn charges

A 48-year-old Springfield man has been arrested for allegedly having child pornography on his computer.

Springfield police said they’ve been investigating Jeffrey Murray for several months. He was arrested Thursday morning at the police station on charges of pandering obscenity and pandering sexually oriented material involving a minor, according to Clark County Jail staff.

While being booked into the jail, Murray denied the charges. He is scheduled to be arraigned today in Clark County Municipal Court. JESSICA HEFFNER, STAFF WRITER

Senior citizen reports robbery

An 86-year-old Springfield man told police a 36-year-old man he knows stole his wallet and cash, valued at $150, Tuesday evening.

The incident occurred when the suspect came to his house and asked for money, according to a report.

The victim pulled out his wallet, and the suspect reportedly grabbed it and pushed the victim into a wall, causing him to fall to the floor and sustain visible injuries. A warrant was requested for the suspect’s arrest. STAFF REPORT

Woman charged with assault

Valarie R. Ward, 20, of 1070 Oakleaf Ave., was ordered into court on an assault charge early Tuesday morning.

According to a report, officers observed Ward on top of an 18-year-old woman, punching her in the face, when they arrived about 2:40 a.m. at the victim’s home in the 900 block of Broadway Street.

She’s also accused of biting the victim’s thumb. STAFF REPORT

Woman jailed on domestic charge

Jessica N. Frederick, 26, of 2126 Morgan St., was placed in jail on a domestic violence charge early Tuesday morning.

She’s accused of hitting a 31-year-old man she knows in the head and face several times, causing injury, about midnight at a home in the 2300 block of Irwin Avenue. STAFF REPORT

Assault, vandalism reported at tavern

A female employee said a man entered Ben’s Tavern about 12:30 a.m. Tuesday and started fighting with patrons, according to Springfield police.

When she told the man she was calling police, he allegedly picked up a pool stick and attempted to hit her with it. He’s also alleged to have jumped over the counter and smashed liquor bottles and the cash register before leaving.

Officers did not locate the man. STAFF REPORT

SPRINGFIELD

Man reports robbery

A 23-year-old Springfield man said he was waiting for a ride from a friend about 9 p.m. in the area of Rice Street and Tibbetts Avenue when he was robbed.

He sustained a facial injury and $43 had been stolen from him during the robbery, according to a Springfield police report.

He was transported by medics to Springfield Regional Medical Center for treatment. STAFF REPORT

Man jailed on domestic assault charges

Asante A. Williams, 18, of 34 W. Clark St., was placed in Clark County Jail on charges of domestic violence and assault Wednesday morning.

According to a police report, he smashed a wooden chair over the back of a 35-year-old woman he knows, punched her in the face, head and body, causing injury, and smashed her phone. STAFF REPORT

• A bicycle, valued at $650, was reported stolen during a home burglary between 8 a.m. and noon Tuesday in the 30 block of East Ward Street, Springfield.

• Car audio equipment, valued at $500, was reported stolen during a vehicle break-in overnight Wednesday into Thursday in the 900 block of North Belmont Avenue, Springfield.

• Three each of car radiators and batteries, valued at $2,100, were reported stolen between Feb. 15 and 9 a.m. Wednesday from a garage in the 500 block of North Florence Street, Springfield. STAFF REPORTS
