Teen charged with shoplifting, underage violations
Darren L. Gilliam, 19, of 829 W. Main St., was ordered into court to answer to a shoplifting charge at Walmart on North Bechtle Avenue where he’s alleged to have left the store without paying for two bottles of liquor about 3:40 a.m. Tuesday.
Police reported Gilliam had an odor of alcohol on his breath and was also charged with underage offenses, then released to a family member. STAFF REPORT
Man arrested on assault charge, warrants
Phillip A. Hubbard, 25, of 613 W. Main St., was arrested following the alleged assault of a male resident in the 50 block of South Sycamore Street about 7:45 p.m. Monday, according to a Springfield police report.
According to the victim and several witnesses, Hubbard was not welcome at the home and, when told to leave, punched the man several times in the face.
Police also booked him into jail for outstanding warrants from Clark County including probation violation, two warrants for failure to license a dog, two warrants for failure to obey a health department order and theft. He had an additional warrant for larceny out of Fairborn. STAFF REPORT
Car window shot at, man jailed
Taylor L. Thompson, 21, of 1026 Mavor Street was placed in jail on a criminal damaging charge stemming from accusations he shot and shattered the passenger window of a passing vehicle with a pellet gun Monday night in the 2600 block of East Main Street.
A 72-year-old man told police he was driving west on East Main Street about 6:30 p.m. when his window was shot at. Thompson said he was shooting at a fence for target practice and wasn’t sure how the window was hit. STAFF REPORT
Woman arrested on domestic charge
Vikki J. McKenzie, 58, of 746 E. Home Road, was placed in jail on a domestic violence charge Monday night following a disturbance at her home.
According to witnesses, McKenzie punched a 39-year-old woman she knows in the back of the head. McKenzie acknowledged to police she didn’t mean to strike the woman, but had intended to punch a 17-year-old girl because the girl was “coming at her” and McKenzie was defending her room. STAFF REPORT
Thefts
• Six pairs of tennis shoes, valued at $1,000, were reported stolen during the burglary of a home in the 1000 block of Garfield Avenue between 3 and about 4:15 p.m. Monday.
• A television, valued at $600, was reported stolen during the burglary of a home in the 100 block of South Light Street between 6 and 9:30 p.m. Monday.
• Two game consoles, games and controllers, a mircrowave, two VCRs and 50 VHS tapes, valued at nearly $500, were reported stolen during the burglary of a home between 3 p.m. Saturday and 5:15 p.m. Sunday. STAFF REPORTS
