SPRINGFIELD — A man who was shot to death Wednesday evening, March 10, has been identified as Timothy Ratchford.

Investigators declined to say if they are treating it as a homicide, but Clark County coroner’s officials and police homicide detectives were dispatched to 25 E. Liberty St., where the man was shot, said Lt. Jeff Meyer of the Springfield Police Division.

Officers were questioning two people in the incident late Wednesday, he said.

Police were sent to the address about 6:30 p.m., after the shots were heard.

As officers processed the scene, an unidentified woman walked out of the house to an ambulance and was taken to a hospital.

Charles Higgenbotham said he had lived in the home with Ratchford for seven years, and had heard about the shooting but had no details about the incident.

“I just saw him (Wednesday) morning and he was fine,” Higgenbotham said. “He asked me to go to McDonald’s and get him something to eat and I did.”

Another man at the scene, Alec Richardson, said he also did not know the details of what happened. Calling himself a close friend of Ratchford, Richardson said he believes the violence “could have been avoided.”

“He was a real good guy,” Richardson said. “He was a dear friend. I can’t believe it. I’m just stunned.”
