A man found hanging in a jail cell was unable to be resuscitated early Saturday morning.

David Newland, 52 years-old, was brought to the Clark County Jail Friday evening just after 10:30 p.m., and booked in for Parole Violation. Deputies conducting their welfare check discovered Newland at approximately 3:34 a.m. He appeared to be the victim of a suicide by hanging.

Life saving procedures were immediately administered, including an Automated Electronic Defibrillator. When EMS crews arrived approximately 9 minutes later, they checked Newland for signs of life, found none and declared him deceased.

Sheriff’s Detectives, Jail Administration, and the Clark County Coroner’s Office were contacted and responded to the scene to start an investigation into Newland’s death.
