The former director of information technology for Wright State University’s Boonshoft School of Medicine pleaded guilty to misdemeanor theft Thursday, admitting that he used his position to buy two-way radios and resold them for profit.

David A. Raines, 57, was fired last year after an internal audit found the unauthorized purchase, Greene County Prosecutor Stephen K. Haller said in January. The case was sent to Greene County from WSU’s police department.

Raines admitted to using a procurement card to purchase $6,709 worth of two-way radios, which he then sold for cash.

Raines initially pleaded not guilty to the indicted charge of felony theft in office.

In exchange for his guilty plea, Raines was convicted of the misdemeanor offense instead.

According to Greene County Common Pleas Court records, Raines has already paid the full restitution amount to the university.

His sentence of 180 days in jail was suspended.

A December indictment said the illegal activity took place between June 1, 2007, and Oct. 7, 2011.

Haller said Raines has a law degree from Yale Law School and was admitted to the Ohio State Bar Association in 1990.
