Health group wins grant

Not in our Town — Springfield, a new organization created under the direction of the Rocking Horse Center to prevent community and family violence, has received a $5,000 Community Connections grant from the HealthPath Foundation of Ohio.

Community Connections is a new initiative to prevent family violence by engaging the community.

NIOT — Springfield will hold regular screenings of films that highlight other city’s efforts to combat community violence. The screenings are free and the public is encouraged to attend and participate in the discussion about how Springfield can act to create a safer, healthier community.

Springfield High to celebrate Marines

Springfield High School’s Marine Corps JROTC will celebrate Veterans Day and the Corps’ birthday with an annual event Friday open to the community.

The event will be held at 3:30 p.m. at the Springfield High cafetorium, 701 E. Home Road.

The USMC birthday is celebrated every year on Nov. 10 by Marines and veterans all over the world. The event will last approximately one hour and be followed by a birthday cake cutting ceremony, where the first piece of cake goes to the oldest Marine present. STAFF REPORT

Miracle on Mitchell holiday open house

The National Trail Parks and Recreation District will host a holiday open house on Sunday.

The NTPRD Administration Building, located at 1301 Mitchell Blvd, will be open from 1 to 4 p.m. to accept registrations for the Start Smart and Junior Jammer Youth Basketball Leagues. Gift certificates and Zumba Fitness Passes will also be available for purchase. Local vendors will be on hand to help with holiday shopping.

The Springfield City School District Board of Education will host a special meeting to discuss the district’s capital plan at 5 p.m. today in the Springfield City Schools District administrative office, 1600 W. Jefferson St., in room 14 in the board room. STAFF REPORT

The Council of Neighborhood Associations will meet at 7 p.m. Nov. 26 in the City Hall Forum, 76 E. High St.

Cindy Catanzaro will be the guest speaker and she will present her research on kit houses in Clark County, specifically those in Springfield.
