Bail of $100,000 cash or surety was set Wednesday for a youth pastor charged with felony sexual battery involving a 15-year-old girl.

Michael D. Mohler, 26, of Dogwood Drive in Monroe Twp. is accused of an inappropriate relationship with a girl and sexual conduct in August, Troy police and Miami County sheriff’s deputies said.

He was identified as “Mic” Mohler, resident pastor, on the First United Methodist Church, Troy, Web site. The church’s pastor said Wednesday that Mohler, who was with the church about two years, had been relieved of his duties.

Sheriff’s Chief Deputy Dave Duchak said there is no indication at this time that there was any other alleged misconduct with a minor.

The Rev. David Leckrone, church pastor, said the church takes the allegations “extremely seriously.” He said church officials are cooperating fully with investigators.

“Upon learning of his arrest and the nature of the charges, we immediately removed Mr. Mohler from any position on our pastoral team and relieved him of all of his responsibilities at our church,” Leckrone said in a written statement.

Troy police initially interviewed the girl Feb. 11 before learning the alleged activity took place at Mohler’s home outside of Troy. Sheriff’s detectives said they interviewed Mohler at the church, also on Feb. 11.

Detectives reported Mohler said he became involved with the girl through the church and began mentoring her when she came to him for advice about her boyfriend. He said he had taken the girl to dinner, tutored her in math, bought her a couple of gifts and watched movies with her at his home.

The alleged sexual contact took place at his home in August, detectives said.
