SPRINGFIELD —

A 26-year-old Springfield man was in the Clark County Jail on Friday, charged with breaking and entering as well as theft stemming from an accusation that he’s been stealing metal material from a local business for weeks to make some cash.

Shawn Leach, taken to jail following an interview with sheriff’s investigators, could be charged with additional crimes pending further investigation, the sheriff’s office said Friday.

Deputies arrested Leach on Thursday when they found him at Springfield Recycling, 1620 Pleasant St., trying to sell for scrap materials believed to have been stolen from Kenny Adams Heating and Air, 3071 Selma Pike.

The owner of the business, told by deputies to come to the recycling facility, was able to identify Leach as the man who has been taking material from his business during a period that stretched from Jan. 1 to Monday, Feb. 4, the sheriff’s office said.

The owner called the sheriff’s office on Monday morning to report that “a large amount of scrap metal and other materials” had been stolen from his business during the range of dates.

On Thursday, the owner called again and reported that the suspect had returned to the business and was taking more items. That call led to the identification and arrest of the suspect at the recycling facility.
