Dozens of videos showing people's reactions to the news surfaced online, including those that showed celebrations in Florida streets and recordings of people sharing the news with their Cuban family members.
Two videos in particular show grandmothers learning of Castro's death.
Ivis Suarez uploaded a video to Facebook of the moment when she told her grandmother that Castro had died.
"I have good news," Suarez told her grandmother, identified only as Ata. "The best news in the world."
Suarez wrapped her grandmother in a Cuban flag and told her of Catro's death. Ata immediately began crying.
"Not even Alzheimer's could take away the emotions my abuela Ata felt when she found out," Suarez wrote on Facebook. "Thanks to her, my family is in this country today."

A teenage boy posted a similar video of his own grandmother learning of Castro's death.
Brian David Ramos, of Hialeah, Florida, caught the moment he told his 84-year-old grandmother, Flora Lorenzo, the news.
"Fidel died," he Ramos told Lorenzo in Spanish in a video he uploaded to Twitter.
"I've never seen her get up so fast," he told Buzzfeed News.
The 17-year-old said that his grandmother called everyone she knew to make sure they knew Castro had died.
"She's feeling great and won't stop kissing me," Ramos told Buzzfeed.
"This means liberty, the union of the Cuban people and hope that Cuba will be free one day," Lorenzo said.
