Pregnant woman attacked by robbers wearing bathing suits

A pregnant woman said she was attacked by a band of thieves wearing bathing suits.

Jayla Morant, who is six months pregnant with her first child, showed Atlanta's WSB-TV the bruises on her now-swollen cheek, which she said were the doing of nearly a dozen robbers.

Morant estimates they were between the ages of 17 and 20.

“I personally counted three girls and seven boys," Morant said.

Morant said it happened around 5:30 a.m. Wednesday, as she was walking to a bus stop in East Point, an Atlanta suburb.

She said the group of 10 robbers surrounded her and tried to steal her purse. She said all of them were wearing bathing suits.

“The girl who tried to grab my purse had a bikini that was tied up on the back,” Morant said. “Where are they coming from? Let alone this many children at the same time."

The mother-to-be said she was not willing to let the robbers take her purse, which was across her shoulder and pregnant belly.

“I'm with child, so there's no way I’m just not going to give up what I had or put my life in danger,” she said.

Morant said she gave up when of the robbers dropped a gun on the ground.

They stole her cellphone and left the area.

According to a police report, one of the suspects fired the gun three times as they said, “Y'all can’t see me.”

Morant said she is glad she gave up the struggle when she did.

“That’s when I realized it was a loaded gun, and I’m glad I was able to make it home safe," she said.
