Police find $11M in heroin when truck stopped for speeding


Police in California discovered more than 200 pounds of heroin worth about $11 million in a tractor-trailer they pulled over for speeding, The Associated Press reported.

The California Highway Patrol told KABC that the truck was stopped Thursday morning in the high desert city of Victorville, about 80 miles from Los Angeles. Authorities believe the truck was headed to Canada.

Highway Patrol officers said they became suspicious when the driver began acting nervous.

“The story and his nervousness brought on the attention—that’s there’s something going on here,” Officer Robert Mendenhall told KABC. “What we call his criminal indicators led us to believe there’s more going on here than just a truck driver heading to Canada.”

The CHP said a police dog sniffed out the drugs in the rear of the tractor-trailer rig. The drugs were packed in boxes marked with labels indicating they contained skin-care cream.

The driver was arrested for investigation of possession and transportation of narcotics, the AP reported.
