Ohio family seeks justice for German shepherd that was shot

A Greene County family is asking for help to find the person who shot and killed their pet German shepherd recently.

Eva was let out to go to the bathroom on Ken and Derrie Edge's 30-acre farm Wednesday night. The family, which includes nine children living at home, noticed the dog hadn’t returned when they said their prayers later that evening.

The next day the family distributed flyers and took to Facebook in hopes of finding her.

They got a message from a friend Friday.

Eva’s lifeless body was found on the side of the road. Apparently she was dumped there, Ken said.

A veterinarian examined the body and determined Eva was shot from behind, possibly as she was running away from the shooter.

The family got Eva four years ago through a rescue group, Derrie said. She said the dog had a rough past and didn’t deserve this fate.

“She was a sweetheart,” Derrie said. “No animal deserves this, but (Eva) deserved to be loved. She was the most perfect dog for a family: So kind and gentle with the kids, but protective.”
