A South Euclid, Ohio, man has been ordered by a judge to stand on a street corner this weekend and hold a sign, letting everyone passing by know that he's a bully.
The unusual sentence was handed down last week when 62-year-old Edmond Aviv was convicted of harassing his neighbors. Judge Gayle Williams-Byers spoke with WJW-TV about what the sign Aviv's forced to hold will say.
"I am a bully. I pick on children that are disabled. And I am intolerant of people that are different from myself."
Aviv's next-door neighbor, Mike Prugh, says the harassment of his family, which includes two adopted African-American siblings with disabilities began 15 years ago.
"You wonder every time you walk outside, you turn to your left to see if your neighbor is there spitting, yelling, screaming at you and you don't know why." (Via WKYC)
"He's thrown dog feces into our yard. ... He's tarred the sidewalk so the kids in the wheelchairs couldn't roll down the sidewalk." (Via WEWS)
WEWS reports Aviv once rigged his dryer vent to blow kerosene fumes into the Prugh's yard. One of Prugh's siblings ended up having to be hospitalized because of the fumes.
Cleveland.com notes that Aviv has been convicted three other times of harassing his neighbors.
This time around, Aviv was also sentenced to 15 days in jail, 100 hours of community service and is required to write an apology letter to the Prugh family.
