Grandma pulls gun on grandson over bills, police say

A Michigan woman is accused of pulling a gun on her 15-year-old grandson after she became angry that his older brother wasn’t pulling his weight financially.

Jaclyn Wedlow, 66, of Ferndale, is charged with domestic violence and felony assault, according to WJBK in Detroit. She posted bail and was released, but is allowed no contact with her two grandsons.

Police told the news station that Wedlow was apparently angry at her 22-year-old grandson for not paying his share of the bills at the home they all shared. When he was taking a shower on Sunday that she thought was lasting too long, she pulled a gun on her 15-year-old grandson and told him to get his brother out of the shower.

The two grandsons complied, but called 911 when they got upstairs, the news station reported. Police arrived a short time later and arrested Wedlow.

"Pointing a loaded gun at a 15-year-old young man when you are a 66-year-old adult -- it doesn't make any sense," Ferndale police Sgt. Baron Brown told the news station.

Brown told WJBK that Wedlow denied pulling the gun on her grandsons.

"She said she was carrying a microwave at the time, which was also located in her bedroom right next to the rifle," Brown said.

Brown said he hoped that the family could learn from the situation and deal with arguments in a “more constructive and peaceful way” in the future.
