Facebook to hold press event Jan. 15

So what is Facebook up to?

The social media network sent invites to a press event that's to be held at its Menlo Park, California headquarters on Jan. 15.
According to The Verge Facebook probably wanted to steal some press coverage from Apple during the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.  The technology, science, art, and culture Web site said the ping came minutes after rumors of the cheaper iPhone started making rounds on the web.

Mashable.com reports: Facebook gave no clues as to what it plans to announce; the invite only read, "Come and see what we're building." This is the first media gathering the company has hosted since it announced a slew of new retail partners for its Gifts app at FAO Schwartz in New York City in November.

What do you think Facebook is going to announce?
