Dolphins’ Incognito was investigated for allegedly harassing woman at golf tournament

Dolphins lineman Richie Incognito, who is at the center of the club’s current scandal, was investigated by Aventura police in May 2012 for allegedly molesting a female volunteer at the team’s charity golf tournament.

Police did not charge Incognito. According to the police report, they told the woman that she could seek charges through the Miami-Dade State Attorney’s Office or take civil action.

She told police that Incognito “used his golf club to touch her by rubbing it up ” against her crotch, “then up her stomach then to her chest. He then used the club to knock a pair of sunglasses off the top of her head.

“After that, he proceeded to lean up against her buttocks with his private parts as if dancing, saying ‘Let it rain, let it rain!’ He finally finished his inappropriate behavior by emptying bottled water in her face,” according to the report.

Incognito was suspended by the Dolphins after his threatening voice mail to teammate Jonathan Martin was released to the media.

The woman, who is 34, told police that while others at the tournament, including Dolphins vice president Nat Moore, apologized to her, she went to police after Incognito wouldn’t apologize.

She told police that Incognito had been drinking. The incident report said alcohol was involved.

WPLG in Miami was the first to report the story Thursday.

Despite it occurring at a team event — the Fins Weekend Golf Tournament — the Dolphins continued to keep Incognito in a leadership role. This year he was voted by his teammates to the club’s leadership council, and the team used him in a video on fan etiquette that was filmed at The National Croquet Center in West Palm Beach and showed at home games on the video screen.

A Dolphins spokesman declined to comment Thursday.
