JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. — St. Louis businessman John Brunner has poured at least $1 million into his U.S. Senate campaign, and new figures show Brunner has a lot more where that came from.

A personal financial report shows Brunner and his wife have assets worth at least $26 million and perhaps as much as $108 million.

The financial report filed with the U.S. Senate only requires candidates to categorize their wealth by dollar ranges — not specific numbers. The report obtained by The Associated Press shows much of Brunner's wealth comes from his ownership stake in Vi-Jon Inc., which makes products such as Germ-X hand sanitizer.

Brunner is one of three Republicans seeking to challenge Democratic Sen. Claire McCaskill. The website opensecrets.org ranks McCaskill as the 11th wealthiest senator. But Brunner's wealth exceeds McCaskill's.
