UD, Miami University named top schools for future high school teachers

The University of Dayton and Miami University have been named two of the best schools in the country for students who want to become high school teachers.

Both UD and Miami were ranked in the 94th percentile of over 700 schools ranked by the National Council on Teacher Quality. The only Ohio school to rank above the UD and Miami was Ohio Wesleyan University, a private liberal arts college located in Delaware, Ohio.

The council evaluated each college’s program based on admission standards, subject-area preparation, requirements for courses on instructional methods, guidance on how to manage classrooms and whether programs provide and ensure practice opportunities.

A number of other area colleges also made the council’s list.

Wittenberg University was placed in the 67th percentile while Cedarville University and Wright State University ranked in the 54th percentile. The University of Cincinnati was placed in the 46th percentile and the council ranked Central State University in the 44th percentile, according to the report.
